What lay ahead for QCells as the transition towards 2023 technology ramps up? A corporate rebrand occurred already, reflecting a new clean appeal. However, marketing allure is one thing. The curious investor in you seeks to understand the current range of QCells solar panels and their specifications compared to the current global market and ensure the ideal solution for your energy investment. The good news, one of the more extensive module product lines can be simplified as two modules from this distinguished brand.

Manufacturer:

Hanwha QCells.

Series:

Q.PEAK DUO-G10, Q.PEAK DUO-G11.

TLDR:

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Ut elit tellus, luctus nec ullamcorper mattis, pulvinar dapibus leo.

Visiting the QCells website, you’ve noticed more than the options listed here. Interestingly, with an abundance of variants, the 2022/23 QCells solar panels available to prospective buyers present in two fundamental variants with one main differentiating factor. You’re potentially thinking warranty. Perhaps bifacial options compared to monofacial? Residential vs utility-scale is often another segregating factor alternative manufacturers use.

In the curious case that is QCells, the critical differentiator between current module generations is cell size. Wafers from which solar cells are derived are steadily increasing. However, it’s a balancing act performed to precision. Just because certain cells possess specific advantages, such may not be so advantageous for your particular project type, especially if the electrical characteristics fail to meet the desired inverter input characteristics.

QCells has utilised exceptional design foresight to ensure a plethora of sub-options appealing to even the more niche investor seeking a QCells solar panel option in 2022 and long into 2023. However, with solar module technology shifts continually gaining momentum, is the current expansive range of QCells solar panels all that we’ll for a while? Likely not.

1. Q.PEAK DUO-G10: 75/100

Why do we display NOCT power density values? Irrelevant to differentiating cell formations, the same module technology is evident if it were to be gauged on a 1m x 1m scale. In the case of the QCells Q.PEAK DUO-G10, a daunting prospect awaits the unaware researcher with up to 7 variants to compare. Fortunately, what initially appears intimidating appeals to different buyer demographics. You simply need to understand more precisely what appeals to you.

A residential project with a high degree of durability focus would benefit from the base model DUO-G10 model, which eclipses all G10 solar modules with improved load testing characteristics. Perhaps, a particular region is mild weather-wise, and a clean, monotone aesthetic appeal is at the forefront of design. In such an instance, the DUO BLK ML-G10 (all black) would be hard to pass on, even when sacrificing a degree of power density. Meanwhile, industry scale project developers seeking to maximise the energy density potential from a tilted solar array and the albedo effect (reflective light) would find greater appeal in the bifacial DUO XL-G10/BFG QCells solar panels. Many investors find appeal in product integrity over time. For an additional cost, the DUO ML-G10+ (plus) presents both a superior design and an improved product guarantee for 25-years as opposed to non plus models (12-years).

Interestingly, what QCells has managed to do with the Q.Peak DUO-G10 range of solar panels is provide investors and project developers something we all seek, choice. And what a world we live in when there’s an abundance of choice to behold.

Key difference: The fundamental factor influencing the 10th generation (G10) QCells solar panels is the use of M6 Wafers/ 166mm cells. The previous generation (G9) uses M4 wafers/ 161.7mm, and the G11 wafer size increases again.

2. Q.PEAK DUO-G11: 73/100

QCells solar panels under the Q.Peak Duo-G11 are currently only large-scale solutions. Even though power density improves slightly over G10 models, the overall build is beyond the realms of residential suitability weighing up to 34.4kg per module. Largely due to increased surface area (dimensions) required in order to achieve the 590Wp power output per module at 21.5% STC Efficiency.

Key difference: M10 Wafers/ 182mm cells. Increasing the surface area of the cell over its predecessor ensures greater power output even though the cell quantity remains the same as in preceding models. The drawback though is a more cumbersome and heavy module design with reduced suitability where access is limited.

There remains minimal technology shift between the QCells solar panels available in 2022/23 no matter the preference between model variants. Interestingly the bifacial glass-glass (BFG) variants of both models possess certain improved characteristics, these are however balanced out overall. Compiling the numbers though identifies a trend that purchasers can be assured equal product technology irrelevant of preference.

With this in mind, be specific to what’s important to you, and refine your selection criteria as the luxury of choice exists with QCells solar panels.

When considering QCells solar panels, brand reputation is undeniable and often considered a reliable long-term energy investment by many.

QCells has more options than most.
