Solar opportunity
40% low solar records per occupied dwelling, 35% owner-occupied detached-home scale and 25% population-growth rank. Areas with fewer than 500 occupied dwellings are excluded by default from the residential ranking.
Battery opportunity
35% strong existing solar prevalence, 35% low battery-to-solar record ratio and 30% detached-home scale. The battery series starts in July 2025, so this is an early adoption signal.
Postcode allocation
ABS 2021 POA to SA2 residential Mesh Block share. Postal Areas approximate Australia Post postcodes. Records are allocated fractionally by each SA2's share of residential Mesh Blocks in the POA, with total Mesh Block share used only when a POA has no residential Mesh Blocks. This is a screening estimate, not premises-level geocoding.
Network overlay
Opportunity polygons retain status, substation, treatment objective, eligible technologies and yearly MW/MWh requirements. Closed procurement records remain useful planning history, but are not presented as open tenders.
CER postcode figures are certificate-based installation records, not a count of unique connected premises. Replacements, upgrades and off-grid systems can be included.
Small-scale technology certificates may be created up to 12 months after installation, so recent periods are incomplete and should not be read as a final market total.
CER began publishing postcode-level battery installation and usable-capacity history from July 2025. Battery-to-solar ratios compare that newer battery register with cumulative solar records.
Western Power opportunities are a public planning and procurement signal. Their mapped polygons do not mean every premise inside the polygon has the same export capacity or connection constraint.
