A frozen March 2026 edition of SSEN’s reported network estimates. Read generation in MW and demand in MVA, with each direction’s colour and constraint kept alongside the value.
545 records in SEPD’s central southern England licence area and 453 in SHEPD’s northern Scotland licence area. These are publisher asset records, not a census of independent sites. The edition and upload dates do not establish when demand was measured. Frozen edition, source delayed; no automatic refresh.
570 records have different demand and generation colours. A demand margin cannot establish export capacity, and a generation margin cannot establish battery import capacity. Demand headroom excludes battery demand; generation headroom includes storage.
The 99 GSP records carry no numeric headroom estimates. Their source N/A values remain unknown because the transmission operator owns the upstream transformers and networks. A supplied colour does not fill those blanks.
| Reported measure | Positive | Zero | Unknown |
|---|---|---|---|
| Demand (MVA) | 502 | 397 | 99 |
| Generation (MW) | 113 | 786 | 99 |
Published zero stays zero. Unknown means source N/A, never an invented zero. GSP, BSP and Primary capacities overlap and must not be summed.
Filter within one licence area or network level, then inspect the source values. 819 Primary, 80 BSP and 99 GSP records are retained. SHEPD has no BSP level in this dataset. Colours are publisher classifications, not connection recommendations.
998 matching infrastructure records. Counts do not represent independent capacity.
SSEN estimates headroom against firm capacity with one feed out. At a single-transformer site this depends on available backfeed, potentially limited by the circuit. Demand estimates apply pipeline diversity and known upstream constraints; generation estimates include the connections pipeline and storage.
Read contracted battery demand separately. Do not subtract it blindly or treat the remaining demand estimate as an available battery connection. Exact calculation factors and all engineering inputs are not published in the inspected material.
The current SSEN glossary defines Red below 5%, Amber between 5% and 10%, and Green above 10% headroom remaining. Exact boundary handling and denominators are not independently established. Source colours are retained, never recalculated. Red or zero can still allow flexible solutions subject to a formal application and detailed network assessment.
Observation period: unknown. March 2026 is the source edition label, 11 March is its resource-modification date and 24 October is our capture date. Neither the edition nor the upload dates establish a demand measurement period. Per-record revision dates and original publication date are also unknown.
The catalogue declares monthly map updates. That does not verify monthly refreshes of this March download. This site serves one frozen edition. The current glossary was accessed on 23 October 2026; its historical equivalence with the March methodology is unconfirmed.
AssetID identifies each source record within this edition. Ratfyn Primary appears under two distinct AssetIDs with different upstream BSPs, so both records remain. Harris and Stornoway GSPs name Ardmore GSP upstream. Dumfin 11kV Network has no upstream GSP reported. No parent or electrical connection is invented from a name.

Solar Analytica selected 28 infrastructure fields, retained decimal values as strings and labelled missing headroom. No SSEN endorsement implied. The projection excludes customer, project and smart-meter records. Null constraint text stays not supplied. Month-year reinforcement dates in the downloads are source forecasts, not observation dates or guarantees.
No feeder, postcode, connection offer, local yield or revenue is inferred. Stored decimal digits are retained without claiming measurement precision. CSV empty fields represent source nulls; retained JSON distinguishes null from source text.

Northern Powergrid headroom remains a separate operator edition, with different fields and dates. No pooled capacity total or common ranking is calculated.
Great Britain’s wider evidence describes national context at its own geography and period. It cannot be joined numerically to these substations. This snapshot strengthens Networks evidence; the puzzle’s feeder/postcode gap remains open.
