The reference point
The national annual ledger records Australia at 33.3 per cent variable renewable electricity and 525 gCO2 per kilowatt-hour in 2025. That is the context lane. It does not describe an operating interval, a state constraint or the value captured by a battery. The daily operator lanes answer those questions at a different resolution.
| Lane | Latest retained reading | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Annual electricity context | 33.3% variable renewable share | Australian generation, calendar 2025 |
| SWIS operation | 80.8% maximum rooftop-PV share | Daily PV peak divided by implied underlying demand |
| NEM storage | 0.46 median TBx capture | Q1 2026 energy-only revenue against perfect foresight |
| SWIS distributed assets | 3.17 GW solar + 0.93 GWh batteries | CER certificate records allocated to the public SWIS extent |
Each row retains its own geography, interval, denominator and evidence type. No composite score is calculated.
The isolated-grid pressure lane
Across 1,019 retained AEMO WEM operating days, rooftop photovoltaic output at its daily peak averaged 52.4 per cent of the implied underlying-demand proxy and reached 80.8 per cent. The maximum is not a typical day, but it is the operating envelope that forecasting, minimum-demand management and flexible demand must be able to survive.
The live Grid Edge Conditions surface updates this lane from operator records. The fixed report preserves the source vintage used for this edition.
The market-value lane
The NEM battery fleet shows why installed capacity is not the same as realised flexibility. The Q1 2026 register contains 60 bidirectional units representing 11.2 GW and 20.4 GWh. Among the 40 units operating for the full quarter, median energy-only revenue captured 46 per cent of the duration-matched perfect-foresight TBx index. Ancillary-service revenue is excluded, so the measure is a market-performance diagnostic rather than total asset economics.
What changes the next edition
The monthly engine records a new edition only after it assembles operator metrics, compares rolling windows and retains the source version beside every result. A missing operator series stays missing. Material changes are carried as explicit metric deltas rather than translated into an editorial score.
Users can create a deterministic Decision Brief from the same comparable-market kernel, inspect the operator record, or follow the deeper SWIS observatory. Those internal paths move from reference publication to current data without changing the measurement basis.
Boundaries
- Annual national mix is not an interval-level operational measure.
- SWIS rooftop-PV share uses an implied underlying-demand proxy.
- TBx capture excludes ancillary services and is not a settlement statement.
- CER records are certificate records, not unique connected premises.
- Cross-market comparisons are allowed only when metric, unit and basis match.
